ADVICE FOR THE MATURE GOLFER
As golfers get older the aim is to cut back on work and eventually retire completely. The tendency will then be to increase the amount of golf they play from once or twice a week, to three, four or even more. This increase in golfing activity is going to place a lot more stress on the golf related muscles and joints.
It is common knowledge that the older golfer is generally stiffer than when he or she was younger. This is often a complaint for loss of distance in their golf game. Neither of these problems should be inevitable. Advancing years do not have to mean performance is greatly affected or increased pain or injury related to golf.
Though tightness and stiffening do occur as we get to middle age, there is no excuse for golfers of any age not to start a stretching regime and make improvements in their flexibility. Ideally individuals who are trying to improve their flexibility specific to golf will have an assessment, Physical Profiling, so a specific programme can be tailored to the individual. This becomes all the more important when golfers increase the amount of golf they play/practice, change or increase their exercise habits or make any swing changes.

You wouldn’t double the mileage of your car without giving it a service, so why do it with your body?
