Golf Swings

Swings analysed by Sandy Jamieson – Coach to Robert Allenby

There are a number of Physical Breakdowns that can occur with the body that can have a detrimental affect on swing mechanics. Some of these breakdowns consist of:

  • Static Posture
  • Dynamic Posture
  • Rotation - Relating to all joints and segments
  • Balance
  • Physical Tightness (stiffness)
  • Hypermobility
  • Stability-Strength
  • Sequencing

Below are a number of swings with various breakdowns identified:

ROTATION

ROTATION

View

Golfer 1: Lack of “rotation” of the lower body segment in the backswing.

DYNAMIC POSTURE & ROTATION

Golfer 2 : Loses “dynamic posture” during the swing. Slight over “rotation” of lower and upper body segments. Rectifying “dynamic posture” would probably cure over “rotation” of lower & upper body segments.

STATIC POSTURE, STABILITY & HYPERMOBILITY

STATIC POSTURE, STABILITY & HYPERMOBILITY

View

Golfer 3: Poor “static posture” & “hypermoblity” possibly as a result of poor scapular “stability”. Poor “sequencing” of body segments into impact due to “hypermobility”.

BALANCE & DYNAMIC POSTURE

Golfer 4: Gains too much height in the backswing due to poor “dynamic posture”. Shifts too much to the right in the backswing resulting in poor weight transference probably as a result of poor “balance”.

STABILITY-STRENGTH & STATIC POSTURE

STABILITY-STRENGTH & STATIC POSTURE

Golfer 5: Poor “static posture” resulting in over flexed knees and  stance too wide, probably due to lack of “stability-strength”. Loss of “dynamic posture” during swing.

PHYSICAL TIGHTNESS, STATIC POSTURE & ROTATION

PHYSICAL TIGHTNESS, STATIC POSTURE & ROTATION

View

Golfer 6 : Poor “static posture” resulting in kyphotic (round shouldered) appearance due to bending forward at the spine and not the hips. Lack of spinal “rotation” due to poor “static posture” and an inability to achieve a full backswing as a result of “physical tightness”. Upper body aiming way left.

SEQUENCING, STATIC POSTURE & ROTATION

Golfer 7: Poor “static posture” with right leg turned too inward at address resulting in lack of hip “rotation” and lateral shift in the backswing. This causes poor “sequencing” with the arms getting too far behind the chest in the backswing and coming down to impact lagging too far behind the torso.

Golfer 8 : Lack of “rotation” of the lower body segment in the backswing due to “physical tightness”.
